Being a Mom Is a Part of Your Identity, But It’s Not Your Whole Story

If a traumatic or unprocessed pregnancy, birth, or postpartum has made you feel removed from the person you once were, you’re not alone. 1 in 5 moms (and 1 in 10 dads) develop a perinatal mood and anxiety disorder, which can feel especially identity-shaking for high-achieving parents.⁺⁺ Without space to process what your body has been through, the journey into motherhood can leave you feeling disconnected from who you are and the life that once brought you joy.

If you’re afraid of never feeling like yourself again, know
that wholeness is possible with perinatal somatic therapy

I Know What It Feels Like to Lose Your Sense of Self While Becoming a Parent.

Hi, I’m Rachael Bardnell, founder, practitioner at The Whole Parent Collective. I’m a Licensed Independent Social Worker and Perinatal Mental Health–Certified clinician (PMH-C), and a mom myself, offering perinatal somatic therapy in Columbus, OH, and throughout the state.

As a mental health professional who was well-resourced in how to care for myself, I was still blown away by the debilitating effect hyperemesis, birth trauma, and postpartum anxiety had on my life. That’s why I’m passionate about bringing moms and parents back to themselves, and helping the providers around them do the same.

INCLUSIVITY STATEMENT:

⁺Here for Every Parent

You’ll see language like mom, women, and motherhood throughout this site, since that’s often how people search for this kind of support. But parenthood doesn’t look the same for everyone. It can start before conception, happen outside of your own body, or take shape in ways that don’t fit those words at all. However your story unfolds, you’re welcome and held at The Whole Parent Collective, and we’re committed to making the perinatal space more inviting and inclusive every day.

“Rachael’s compassionate, trauma-informed somatic work is a game changer for people in their birthing era.”

“She helps clients prepare for birth feeling more grounded and supported—or process the parts of their birth story that still feel heavy long after the dust has settled. Birth isn't just something that happens to your mind; it’s something your body experiences too, and I trust Rachael completely to help our clients gently reconnect with themselves, build resilience, and heal in a way that honors both.”
